Humphrey Davies Death – Cause of Death – Humphrey Davies has sadly passed away on the 12th of November 2021 in the UK after a short battle with cancer. Humphrey T. Davies was a British translator of Arabic fiction, historical and classical texts. Reports have mentioned that the Cairo-based award-winning British translator of Arabic historical and classical texts and modern fiction, who had worked for decades in the Arab world.
Wikipedia mentioned that Humphrey has translated at least 18 Arabic works into English, including contemporary literature. He was a two-time winner of the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation. The first award was for his Elias Khoury’s grand epic novel The Gate of the Sun, and later in 2010 for Khoury’s novel Yalo.
Davies has worked for many institutions in a number of countries in the Arab world, including Save the Children in Palestine and the Ford Foundation in Sudan. He is the co-author, with Lesley Lababidi, of A Field Guide to the Street Names of Central Cairo (AUC Press, 2018).
