The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the announcement by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces of a cease-fire during the days of Eid Al-Fitr.

Jamal Rushdi, spokesman for the League's Secretary-General, said in a statement on Friday that the ceasefire agreement will provide an opportunity to restore calm, allowing civilians to obtain basic needs, opening humanitarian corridors to deal with critical cases, and enabling hospitals to operate. The spokesman referred to the humanitarian appeal that Aboul Gheit launched last Wednesday, in which he appealed to the two parties to the conflict to cease fire during the Eid days.
