Laurence Dworkin Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Laurence Dworkin.

Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.

Laurence Dworkin was a respected South Africa documentary filmmaker, producer, director, editor and lecturer, he was a founder member of South Africa’s Independent Producers Organisation (@Iproducersorg_) and a past chairperson. He  died from Covid-19 on May 17.

Environmental Monitoring Group was privileged to work with Laurence Dworkin at our Northern Cape office, and will always be remembered by the team. We send condolences, love and solidarity to his family, friends and colleagues during this time.

It is with immense sadness that we have learned of the passing yesterday of one of this country’s greatest documentary filmmakers, Laurence Dworkin. He had been battling COVID19 since last weekend. Our condolences go to Louise and all who knew and loved Laurence.


Feeling so sad upon hearing the brutal news this morning about Laurence Dworkin losing the battle against Covid-19. He was an iconic, pioneering filmmaker from the struggle days of the 1980s, a principled creative South African. May he R.I.P.

It is with deep sadness that the IPO has learned of the passing from #Covid19 of respected documentary filmmaker, activist and mentor, Laurence Dworkin. Laurence was a founder member and past Chairperson of the IPO. IPO extends heartfelt condolences to his family & friends.


I’m midway through my book on apartheid cinema in South Africa and just received a message that Laurence Dworkin who appeared in our documentary and was involved with anti-apartheid cinema inc the essential My Country My Hat (1983) has passed from Covid-19.

Very sad news RIP.
