With deep sadness, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) announces that its executive director John Eric Swing has died. He was 48. Newly appointed to his leadership role on April 1, John was a greatly respected, experienced, and passionate colleague, and had been selected as SIPA executive director after the conclusion of a year-long nationwide search. A longtime development specialist and veteran community service leader in Historic Filipinotown (HiFi), he has served the Filipino American community for many years and was a SIPA staff member since 2015 🌷🇵🇭❣️

Under Swing’s leadership, SIPA staff had migrated its community services, support services and educational programs online to provide ongoing, uninterrupted assistance for small businesses, youth and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. In April, SIPA led a food delivery project for seniors and minority families in HiFi with support from the office of California State Senator Ling Ling Chang. The California State Senate honored SIPA and John’s leadership for early efforts during the pandemic with a certificate of recognition as “Unsung Heroes of Southern California.”

I now personally know someone who has passed away due to COVID-19.John Eric Swing is leaving behind 4 beautiful children and a loving wife.
