The Arizona hip-hop trio confirmed the passing of the rapper known as Stepa J. Groggs—“loving father, life partner and friend”
Jordan Groggs, the rapper known as Stepa J. Groggs in the Arizona hip-hop trio Injury Reserve, has died, according to a Twitter post from the group. He was 32.Groggs met fellow rapper Ritchie with a T at the Vans store where Groggs worked and which Ritchie’s mother owned. The pair eventually found a young producer, Parker Corey, whose approach to hip-hop production helped push the group toward their signature sound. The trio formalized themselves as Injury Reserve in 2013. Without much of a rap scene in their hometown, Injury Reserve developed and first attracted a local audience by performing alongside punk and indie acts at shows around the campus of Arizona State University.
Injury Reserve released their first mixtape Live from the Dentist Office in 2015. They followed it a year later with another mixtape, 2016’s Floss. They released their self-titled studio debut last year. On Twitter, Injury Reserve also shared a GoFundMe page to support Groggs’ family, including his four children.
Been on Injury Reserve since 2016. Their music has always been about pushing boundaries. Just this totally unique sound with every release. Groggs balanced Ritchie’s insanely hype vocals with this smooth flow that always sounded like he knew exactly how it was. Probably my most hyped group since I can remember and one of my favorite music groups. This is absolutely devastating to hear. Rest in power Groggs.
Injury Reserve everything happened quickly – a few looser projects, an ambitious debut and a great career and a promising future. And a sudden tragedy – one third of the collective, Jordan Groggs is dead. The rapper died at the age of 32
It’s hard to divide this trio into three – although each of it contributed to a specific role, their impact on others was liquid enough to go beyond a specific frame that such labeling will not say anything about the team. Composed of rappers Step J. Groggs and Ritchie With a T (Nathaniel Ritchie) and producer Parker Corey trio created a very coherent whole. They exchanged ideas for each other. They drew from themselves by sharing secrets about used samples, interesting flow and ideas for new numbers. They wanted to conquer the rap scene with their sound, and their mixtures and ending a certain stage debut were a signal that they were taking the case seriously. And that they need to be taken seriously too.
Groggs was a mentor in the rap division of this group. He worked at Ritchie’s mother’s shop, and for her son he quickly became a musical guru and a great inspiration. Parker helped merg and upload their ideas to the next level. His productions were similar to nothing else. It was thanks to their unique sound that they quickly conquered the hearts of locals first, then many members of rap community around the world. They didn’t mind that there were no rap festivals in their hometown Phoenix to test their skille. At the popular punk show there they did as well. Rawness in the sound and transmission paved their way between amateurs of different species, thus showing their diversity and quality of music. Once their very clear ID has been crystallized and gathered a lot of fans around the world, one of the team members dies. Gruggs left leaving the other half of Anna and four of their children behind. Collective buddies said goodbye to a friend with the words ′′ REST IN POWER Jordan Alexander Groggs a loving father, life partner and friend “.
Groggs was a family person. He spent a round year with familia and only a few months in the studio. ′′ You gotta live life to have something to rap about ′′ – once said in a Pigeons & Planes interview. He’s not with us today, but ′′ Groggs’s heart has touched everyone he has came across. He will live on through his family, supporters, and the communities he was apart of ′′ – how can you read under organized to support his family’s fundraiser.
R.I.P.
the tragic passing of Jordan Alexander Groggs, is gonna bring in more fans. While it sorta annoys me that some people will start dick-riding them, and shit like that, we shouldnt care. We should be happy they are going to get the reconzagtion they deserve.
