Last night one boisterous soul with a loud laugh and huge heart passed onto the great stage above. Bradley Bogaert was a huge part of the lgbtq+ community but he was a big part in my life. When I first met cole I met bradley the following night and he came over and on the mic talked about my chest and how large it was, I was so embarrassed but realised that is his schtik. Over time I became a little more comfortable qoth him and started talking more. Finally there came a time i would try being a drag king he was so supportive and made me not so nervous backstage. Later when I decoded perform as a female lead he was supportive behind that as well.. he was just happy for me to enjoy the art of performing. We had a very odd relationship but it worked for us. Sometimes I would clean up and put things away the next moment I’m going “where is that!? I had it right here…” I look over and its been put in a totally different place then where I had it originally. He and I really started to understand eachother better over the course of the past couple years and even the past couple of months. He would try ad help me with ideas for clothing for the burlesque troup and always ALWAYS tried to get me to do bigger make up and tell me bihhhhhh you need some big necklace or something to POP! Just last weekend he told me that I “Shitted” for my outfit, hair and make up, even down to my lashes! I will always remember the laughs he gave me, the times when I wanted to yank him out of the bedroom and go “That pan doesn’t need to be in the oven when your not using it!”(a silly argument we use to have on a weekly basis until I made shelves for them) and of course I will always remember our heart to hearts down to the day he bought me yellow roses because he had said something that hurt my feelings by mistake. I will always love you Bradley and I can promise you will never be forgotten. You better work that heavenly stage queen of kings! Rest in peace.
I’m waking up to the incredibly sad news that Bradley Bogaert died last night while performing in Mishawaka, IN. Bradley and I met at Truman’s. I haven’t seen him since the club closed in 2012. He was so funny and so very kind to me and my friends when he would go watch him perform. He had a personality that was larger than life, looked stunning in a cocktail dress and his jokes were so raunchy, even I blushed. He meant a lot to so many in South Bend/Mishawaka and will be deeply missed!
I’m just in disbelief… my heart is CRUSHED. Bradley Bogaert knew my Father, knew me…
Well, Bradley really knew everybody, truly. He knew how to be kool with just about anybody. It was one of his many gifts. A light & fixture in & of the Michiana LGBTQ+ family. He was a beacon of love & support. I’ve never known the drag world without Bradley. He’s a legend… an important one. A REAL entertainer, teacher, comedian, and an absolutely beautiful human being, inside & out. Always handy with a piece of advice, a hilarious comment, a caring ear, AND a tongue sword. I said to a friend tonight “There are some people who you just cannot imagine your world without”… Bradley’s one of those people in my world. R.I.P., Bradley… you will remain in my heart, and the hearts of SO MANY, forever.
