Former Junior Minister of Finance has died
==================================Basseterre, Tuesday, 28th July, 2020, (MyVue News.com)- One of the founding fathers of the co-ruling People’s Action Movement,(PAM), in St. Kitts & Nevis, has died.
Early Tuesday morning, the news broke that Richard Caines, who also served as Junior Minister of Finance in the Kennedy Simmonds Administration, from 1980-1993, died after a prolonged period of ailment.
Though details are still emerging, sources have indicated that Caines died late last night, 27h July, 2020.
He was a prominent figure in the PAM/NRP government, known for his fiscal prudence.
But many would also remember Caines as a successful business man, operating from Prince’s Street, in downtown Basseterre.

One of the founding members of the People’s Action Movement,(PAM), has died. Richard Caines served in an official capacity during the PAM/NRP administration led by Kennedy Simmonds. He was responsible for CARICOM affairs and later Finance.
Richard Caines was a political activitist, a former educator and a businessman.

This morning I woke to the sad news of the passing of Mr Richard Caines.
Richard was one of the founding members of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), former Junior Minister of Finance, a patriot, a leader, a business giant and one of the Federation’s loudest voices in support of the Team Unity Administration.
For many, including myself, he was a mentor and friend. His unwavering support and advice even during his declining health will always be remembered.
My sincerest condolences to the family and many friends of Mr Richard Caines. May he rest in eternal peace.
Good morning, I received some sad news this earlier today. Richard Caines has left us. He was a founding member and stalwart of the People’s Action Movement. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
I awoke this morning to the sad news that Richard Caines Sr. had passed. Mr. Caines was a giant personality in the Federation. He was a co-founder of our great party which I am so proud to lead, the People’s Action Movement. He served with distinction as Minister of the State in the Ministry of Finance during the PAM/NRP Administration between 1980 and 1995. He was widely regarded as one of the leading businessmen in the Federation. Beyond all of this, he has also been a mentor to many including myself. His frank and insightful discussions and interactions with me were always a learning experience and has contributed tremendously to my own development, both politically and personally.
He has been the very stable anchor and foundation that the People’s Action Movement could always rely on. Mr. Caines has left a tremendous legacy that will be forever un-matched. The country has lost a true icon in every sense of the word.
Thank You, Mr Caines, for your contribution to this Nation. You have worked long, hard and selflessly. On behalf of the Executive and members of the People’s Action Movement and on my own behalf, I express my most profound condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Richard Caines. We will forever remember and honour your legacy. You will surely be missed by many.
