She had a strong reputation for being a pediatrician who practiced with incredible love, kindness and generosity. We are devastated by this loss and know that she will be greatly missed.

Yuma doctor dies from COVID-19.
Rest in peace 🙏🏻#Yuma — Dr. Emilia Matos, long-time pediatrician in Yuma, passed away Monday morning due to causes related to COVID-19, announced the Yuma Regional Medical Center.
She died after a battle of weeks under the attention of colleagues in the medical profession who revered her as a key figure in the community of health care professionals.

This is just heartbreaking.
My children were some of her 1st patients. I remember the day my daughter was born Dr. Matos came in to tell me how my newborn daughter was doing, Dr. Emilia Matos was dressed as a cheerleader,…It was so cool!!!! Yes, my daughter was born on Halloween, in 1983! I loved Dr. Emilia Matos, she was amazing. She also saved my daughters life when my daughter was a baby. Doctor Emilia Matos was so kind, she was caring and so down to earth. She will be missed by everyone that knows her. May she Rest In Peace.

So sad to hear of the passing of my twins Austin Grant and Bailey Grant s first pediatrician Dr Emilia Matos passing away 😢and due to Covid 19 it saddens me even more ! For last two weeks, I was keeping the hope that her condition would turn around,” said Dr. Bharat Magu, Chief Medical Officer for YRMC. “Her kindness, her smile and her enthusiasm to continue providing care to young ones in the community will be dearly missed.”
Dr. Matos began caring for the children of Yuma in 1983, earning a strong reputation among the families she served for being a pediatrician who practiced with her loving heart, as much as her sharp and knowledgeable mind.”
The Yuma community lost an incredible physician — and person — yesterday, with the passing of pediatrician Dr. Emilia Matos. I got to know Dr. Matos through my wife, Sandy, who once worked for Dr. Matos. All I can say is what everybody else is saying or has already said, Dr. Matos may have been short in stature, but she was a giant in the community, with an even bigger heart and love for children!
