Commonwealths Attorney Ray Larson Has Passed Away

Former Fayette County Commonwealths Attorney Ray Larson has died. He passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 1, 2021.

Ray was a consequential Commonwealth’s Attorney and devoted public servant to his community. Having served for more than three decades, he was a relentless advocate for victims’ rights. Please keep his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Ray will be missed so dearly in the hearts of those who knew him.

Tributes To Late Ray Larson

“It’s a sad day for Kentucky. The original Crime Fighter, Ray ” The DA” Larson has gone to Heaven. Ray Larson started prosecuting the same year I was born. He served as Commonwealth’s Attorney in Fayette County for over 30 years until he retired in 2016. Ray was a tireless advocate for crime victims and a champion of justice and accountability. He was also a leader in both the KY Commonwealth’s Attorney Association and the National District Attorneys Association.

When I was elected, the first call I made was to Ray because, though I had never met him, his reputation as being the best prosecutor in Kentucky. Ray invited me to Lexington and spent an entire day showing me how he ran his office and answering all my questions. At the time, I had no idea how big of a sacrifice this was but today, I’m in awe of his generosity. For the next 15 years, even after his retirement, Ray was a great friend and mentor. Many of the policies in my office were inspired by Ray. Many of the philosophies by which I run my office were also inspired by Ray. Though he is gone from this earth, his legacy will live on in my office and many others across Kentucky!

Rest easy Ray! You fought a great fight. We will take it from here, and we will never forget you, my friend!”
