With the reopening of cinemas in the Kingdom, there are questions that arise about Saudi female designers, and the trend in the fashion line by designing the costumes of Saudi actors in the next stage in films, which will serve as an opportunity for female designers to continue their creativity, especially since the return of cinema is a historical shift in Saudi social and artistic life. .
“Okaz” contacted the pioneers in fashion design who have proven their position in the design sector, to find out their expectations about women entering the cinema.
At the outset, Omaima Azouz, head of the Fashion Design Committee at the Jeddah Chamber, says: “In all countries of the world and in many Arab countries developed in art, such as Egypt and Lebanon, fashion designers and designers are used in historical series or dramas. This is supposed to be present in Saudi Arabia as well, especially with the permission to enter the cinema. I expect the start of a major artistic movement in the coming period.
As for the participation of fashion designers in dressing the male and female artists of the Saudi series, designer Omaima said: “We welcome cooperation with the stars of Saudi and Gulf art and drama, because it has common interests for both sides. It is an opportunity for the fashion designer to display her creativity and production through works that everyone can see. At the same time, art stars will benefit by getting to know exclusive and unused fashion.” Emphasizing that the Saudi designer is most familiar with the taste of women (whether she is an artist, a media person, a society lady, or an ordinary woman), and therefore she will provide an added value to art and its stars, by providing modest and decent clothing that combines elegance, luxury and simplicity sometimes.
For her part, fashion designer Nafisa Al-Kaf said on this topic: “We have previously participated in dressing actresses in many series, and in the next stage that witnesses the entry of cinema, I expect a great recovery in fashion, and that the designers provide everything that contributes to the success of the work, especially since we have young cadres.” The creative Saudi is not only in fashion design, but in all fields, whether acting or directing and other fields, and they have great potential that qualifies them to enter the global market strongly. Personally, I see that we are supposed to shed light on Saudi female directors in any field so that Saudi youth highlight their creative capabilities. We are working to make the names come to light in a manner appropriate to the global level.”
Regarding the Saudi film industry, the entry of women into the cinema, and expectations about the trend in the fashion line, Al-Kaf said: “Since we are heading to the cinema, and the fact that fashion is one of the important elements in the work requires solidarity among the staff, to form an integrated link to ensure 100% Saudi work, starting from the places where it is done.” It includes photography, passing through the actors and costumes, and finally directing and producing. There is no doubt that it will be an integrated qualitative leap that will contribute to the success of the work.”
