You never know when goodbye is goodbye …. Back in May when the house was burning down and it was a tough night ….. I bumped into The Godfather and as always his soft spoken demeanor said “hang in there , you got a great track you’ll have these nights” …. I didn’t have a relationship with Eddie Mishue , but over 20 years I often had these small exchanges when we bumped into each other ….. Eddie Mishue was a legend in dirt karting and if you were a fan like I am , you knew his status when you seen him at the track ….. very few people have that presence ….. Fly high Eddie Mishue, karting, myself and HRK will miss your steady presence and lifetime commitment to our sport ….
I’ve sat here and wrote this and erased and wrote again with tears in my eyes. Eddie Mishue, you were like a best friend to me. We’ve talked about so many things we’ve wanted to try and never gotten around to it. I never would’ve thought in a million years that the last time I would get to talk to you in person was at the big O. I would’ve given you a huge hug and told you over and over and over again how much I appreciated you. I would’ve told you not to worry about your family, because your family is my family and we’re going to make sure they are taken care of just like you’ve taken care of us. I’m hurt because I could’ve sworn your race wasn’t over. I prayed and I prayed for your healing as so many others did. This world is such an unfair and cruel place and you’re in a better place now tuning on some carbs and making more left turns. Until next time Mr. Eddie. We all love you so dearly. I’m glad you are finally at peace
I can’t bring myself to search for photos of us. But I lost a great friend and mentor today, Eddie Mishue. Thank you for all the good times we had together big Ed. The Godfather of racing engines! You told me from day one that we would accomplish great things and you stuck by my side through it all. Those Monday phone calls will always be something I miss very dearly. I’ll never forget you. It weighs heavy on my heart to know that my son will be here in one month and never meet the man that kept his dad out front since he was a kid! Until we meet again! #mishuemafia
