Tonight my heart is shattered. My brother Tim Akers @TAandSmokSec went to be with Jesus today. Even though I’d only known him for about 25 years, he made a huge impact on my life. #cancersucks (1/2) pic.twitter.com/ONTJYGibi8

That’s how I know there’s a marine biologist in Australia, a politician in the UK (who seems like a bit of a rat), a cyclist in Colorado, and, until yesterday, a musician in Nashville. Because apparently Tim Akers, of Tim Akers and the Smoking Section, died last night.

“Prayers requested for the family of John Carmon, who passed away on Aug. 31st. His son, Tim Akers passed away on Aug. 30th.
I am confident that most of the members of the SJS knew John. He and Mary Ann were around the BSU and the SJS through the years 1971-1977, and the years since then. He took photos of the group, and sang with us on the reunion tours to Florida. John and Mary Ann hosted us in their home (which was formerly the Kearce home) in Bowling Green during reunions.”
