HAWK SPRINGS, WY — At least two teenagers have died in a late-night two-vehicle accident on U.S. 85 south of Hawk Springs, Wyoming around 10:00 p.m. The officials identified the victims that lost their lives as 18-year-old Korey Bowers of Canada and 19-year-old Emma Nelson of Juniata, Nebraska.
On Thursday night, a 2009 Ford Taurus occupied by the teenagers stopped on US 85 with the vehicle’s left turn signal which was activated as the driver tried to turn onto Highway 313. It was then that the Taurus was hit by a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Conan Ferguson, 49, of Briggsdale, Colorado northbound which tried to pass the Ford when it attempted to turn from left to right. The impact of the crash caused the Ford to overturn.
Nelson, the passenger of the Ford who was not wearing a seat belt died at the scene while Bowers, the driver of the same vehicle was transported to Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyoming where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Ferguson and his passenger, Manos Zouridakis, 29, of Longmont, Colorado did not sustain injuries from the accident.
The accident is still under investigation by the officials.
