Lee Martin Death – Obituary, Funeral, Cause Of Death
It is with the greatest of regret that we announce the death of our beloved colleague and former Head of R.E. Lee Martin. Lee joined the college in 1999 after spending a number of years teaching in Hazelwood Integrated College in North Belfast. Lee taught R.E., History and was one of the first teachers of Citizenship when this subject was introduced to the curriculum. Lee was steeped in the fabric of Erne Integrated College, sister-in-law of Science teacher Bob Kerrigan, sister of former Learning Assistant Gillian and auntie to former Learning Assistant Joey and students Ruairi and Yael; for Lee, EIC was very much a family affair. Generations of our students will be grateful for Lee’s sensitivity, guidance, care and wisdom. Lee was a truly caring and dedicated teacher. As a staff we will always remember Lee’s intelligence and wit and her love of a good laugh. Lee was a fantastic raconteur and frequently had us in stitches with her ability to spin a good yarn.
Lee was extremely committed to the extra-curricular life of the College. She never missed an extra-curricular event: Evenings of celebration, concerts, Christmas fairs, Carol Services, Lee was always there and prepared to do whatever was needed, working with students to help them shine and present our school to the world in all of its glory. Lee truly loved the school and her students, she was the essence of integrated education and firmly believed in celebrating diversity, often inviting guest speakers from a variety of different disciplines into the school to enrich the lives of all in our community.
Many students will recall the cross-border residential trips organised by Lee and the opportunities that she gave to so many to experience learning outside the classroom. As Head of Year 8 and form teacher many students will remember the impact that Lee had on their lives and the careful way that she provided support and nurture to students who needed that extra little bit of TLC. Lee had a life well-lived and brought her considerable experience into the classroom for the benefit of all her students.
Lee was a wonderful human being who saw the best in everyone; she was a very special teacher who gave her understanding and love easily and we at Erne Integrated College are very grateful to have had the pleasure and honour of journeying together with Lee. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lee’s family especially Gillian, Bob, Joey, Yael and Ruairi.
