Every friend represents a world in us,a world waiting to be born,a world born when that friend arrives in our life.
Trutfully, that world is a product of our earnest aspiration or things we desire or the things we deserve or things we are capable of doing but lack proper motivation to begin.
This lacking motivation is factor provided by the friend though conscious effort or just by their presence in our life.
This takes us back to ourselves,
To who we are,
To what we validate,
To our level of integrity and the kind of life we lead or
What we stand for or
What significance we bring to our environment: This is the key to leadership defined by influence.
The influence which finally becomes what we impact on our friends and associate. This influence is defined by who we are or what we stand for.
Everybody stands for a something, for some, they stand for moral value while some stand to represent moral decadence wherever they go,some represent trouble (wherever they are,if trouble has not bursted then it is in the formenting stage,championed by them)
In all,our greatest benefit is not our friends impact on us rather it is what impact we create in the lives of our friends and associates.
In this line of thought,a few principles may be very useful to those enlightened enough to seek personal admission into the school of life as perpetual leaders(learners).
1-Dont seek your friend to be nice to you, rather be nice to them.
2-Dont expect understanding from other, rather understand them and be a non-judgemental friend.
3- Expect nothing from others even when you go extra mile for them,as human, we still have a long way to go in understanding ourself.
To influence your friends sucexfully.
Start by defining who you are,
What your moral values are and
What you stand to represent as a person.
Then know where your friend is by virtue of his needs or disposition, then from your wealth of understanding,impact your friend with the best in you.
If you are a honest person,find a way and impact that in your friends not by condeming them as liars but by impacting them in such a way that as a result of associating with you,they become honest.
This is one of the highest function of leadership. It is because it takes great effort to teach/impact others from our wealth of understanding. Many leaders are good in themself but lack the capacity to teach others how to be good, some leaders have the virus of self rightousness. A self rightousnessdefined by a feeling of superiority and a disrespect or belittling of those who they deem as below them in dignity.
If we get back on track, as leaders,our supreme function is to build society from our wealth of understanding. This we do through perpetual effort on our path. There are no clear cut formula for teaching/impacting others,it is the responsibility of you as a leader to find out how best it is to impact your value into society. Sometimes it is your audience that determines the method you can use.
Some people impact through doing music,some do theirs by acting movies, some by becoming preachers, some by devotional worship in a religious setting, some through becoming administrative leaders in social organisations or business organisation. It is your task to find out how best you can do this, not to the world at large but to each friend you have.
The ship of leadership is in your hand. Have a smoth sail.
