“God bless you”
Comes from someone who has a deep apprecaition for something you did. It comes from gratitude, this is when we can rightly say,the voice of the people is the voice of God.
When someone sincerly tells you “God bless you” that person activates divine blessing on you,it serves as a prayer for you to receive just like you have given/done for him/her.
Now,lets look beyond the blessing, lets look at the gratitude that prompt the prayer.
Every person desires others to be kind to them, irrespective of how wicked/unkind or unruly they are. We all want people to be kind to us. When someone then fulfills this inner need,in most cases when the reciever of your kindness does not forsee a way in which they can pay you back, they tell you “God bless you”
The key, here, as leaders is to cast the bread of our kindness upon the waters of life. Kindness is best done to those who by all physical calculation cannot pay you back.
This is a form of grace being sown into the life of the person.
I remember an experience i had in 2003,an experience that changed my conception about Nigeria.
i was on a motocycle on the agbani busy road of the cool city Enugu,i was rushing back to school to meet up a lecture so i told the bike guy to run as fast as his limit can go. In my breast pocket was my cluth pencil, as we speed pass by,we entered a pot hole,my pencil flew out of my pocket without my knowing, then a bus conductor picked it and told his driver to chase my bike, they left the passengers they were struggling to carry and started chasing my bike till they cut up with us after about 3km. The conductor flagged us,we slowed down and he gave me the pencil. When he gave me the pencil,i saw a sigh of relief in him,he felt fulfilled, i just uttered “God bless you” then they turned their bus around and went on to struggle with other buses for the avalable passenger.
To me,that was a miracle because, first,i valued my cluth pencil alot,it meant work, duty, dedication and excellence to me,i used it more than my pen cos as a writer, inspiration can come anytime and i will have to pencil it down.
Secondly, I wondered what will make a bus driver and his conductor leave dragging passengers but to go and give a fallen pencil to the owner. Infact my first reaction was that they were angels.
This experience made me know that there are good people out there.
Another experience i had.
In 2014,one day i was going out of my street,i saw a lady being droped off by a land cruiser, she looked like a soft type, she had 3 big bags, she needed someone to help her but she didnt know how to ask anybody, maybe she was not familiar with the neighbourhood,so i want to her and told her i wanted to help her,she allowed me carry 2 of the bags then she took the light one. I carried it all the way to where she was going,a very far distance into one of the streets, when we were a few meters from the gate, she just bloated out “you are an angel,God bless you”
The key point here is gratitude for something done.
The best kind of gift is gift given to those who cannot pay back.
There is the gift of advice, wisewords, encouragement, friendship, helping someone in need. These leadership qualities are vital to personal growth.
Find a way, impact others positively, even the salesgirl you meet for less than a minute can be positively impacted by your goodness. Charity begins at home, home is where the heart is
