The Saudi Society for the Preservation of Heritage “We Are Our Heritage” was chosen as a global advisor in the field of intangible cultural heritage to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), after passing the necessary standards and requirements. "We Are Our Heritage" is the first Saudi Gulf organization to pass the standards on the recommendation of the Intangible Heritage Committee during the meeting of the 14th Intergovernmental Committee of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, which was held during the period 8-14 December 2019 in Bogota, Colombia.
On this recommendation, the association is awaiting the official adoption decision during the organization’s meeting in mid-2020, which will immediately follow the start of the association’s work in assessing the intangible cultural heritage files of other countries and providing advisory services to UNESCO in projects specialized in heritage preservation.
This comes at a time when the association's board of directors, headed by Badr bin Muhammad Al-Asaker, is keen to increase its role and influence at the international level, which led the association to this achievement. While the director of the association, Abdul Rahman Al-Aidan, considered that this is an important step in the history of the association at the national and international levels, stressing that this achievement is the result of tireless work in which the association harnessed the experiences and capabilities of its employees over the past years to achieve its goals in preserving the Saudi cultural heritage, and highlighting it internationally, which reflects the richness of the Saudi identity. to society and the world. It is noteworthy that the association’s march is full of international achievements, the most prominent of which is its registration as an international non-governmental organization, as an effective and influential engine in the field of preserving Saudi heritage and awareness of its importance and national value and benefiting from it according to its vision.
