The Jordanian Court of Cassation upheld the decision of the Amman Court of Appeal to convict a citizen of temporary labor for a period of three years as a result of biting off the ears of two young men following a dispute that occurred between them in one of the areas of the capital, Amman.
According to what was stated in the case, the accused caused the cutting of part (the pinna) of the ear of one of the parties to the quarrel and the formation of a partial disability that has the appearance of a permanent disability, and the injury of the other's ear, which caused him harm, according to the Emirates Today website.
In the details, while the complainants, the accused, and others were in one of the areas of the capital, a dispute occurred between one of the complainants and the defendant, which developed into a quarrel, as a result of which the accused bit the ear of the first complainant, which caused him an injury. Cut off part of the earlobe.
By referring the two complainants to forensic medicine, it was found that part of the ear of the first complainant was missing, and a wound in the ear of the second complainant was treated, as his personal right to the accused was dropped. The court found that these acts constitute all the pillars and elements of the felony of causing permanent disability and misdemeanour, and decided to place him in temporary labor for a period of three years.
The defendant did not accept the verdict, so he appealed it to the Amman Court of Appeal, which decided to uphold the verdict with regard to the charges of causing disability and abuse.
The accused did not accept the ruling, so he challenged it in cassation, and the Court of Cassation upheld the ruling, and said that the actions of the accused, represented by biting the ear of the first complainant, which caused him to lose part of the ear pinna, constitute, in legal application, all the pillars and elements of the felony of causing a partial disability that has the appearance of permanent disability.
