Today (Friday), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced the start of prisoner exchange operations between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group.
The committee indicated that the exchange operations involve about 900 people and continue over several days.
The Yemeni government had signed an agreement for the exchange of prisoners with the Houthi group in Switzerland on March 20, which includes, at this stage, the release of more than 880 prisoners and detainees held by both parties.
The head of the Houthi delegation to the prisoner exchange negotiations, Abdul Qadir al-Murtada, confirmed the agreement to implement a broad exchange deal that includes 706 prisoners of the group, in exchange for 181 prisoners and detainees from the government coalition, and indicated that another round will be held after Ramadan to complete the implementation of the rest of the agreement.
