This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.
I am deeply saddened to learn that my professor, capstone advisor, mentor, and friend Andrea Tschemplik has passed away suddenly. She was an incredible human, teacher, and friend. Her smile and raucous laughter could light up a room and her quick wit and deep intellect combined with utter humility and unpretentiousness was a rare combination indeed.
We shared a love of seltzer and shared some hand rolled cigarettes on breaks from our 3 hour Plato symposium, where John Bly, Dan Thomas, and I presented on the Theatetus (still a fond vivid memory).
She was there for me when I was a depressed recent philosophy grad struggling to find purpose and stability. She was there for me when I slogged through my thesis for a year, and maintained the perfect balance of motivation and trust and that 55 page paper wound up helping me win the Pearson Prize in Philosophy along with Chris Lucibella. She was at the ceremony and I could tell she was proud.
I wish I could have another Chef Geoff’s $5 supermug and 1/2 off burger with you. And tell you about my insane life the past 7 years since we last spoke. About my dreams and plans and heartbreaks. About daoism and epistemology and politics.
May you rest in peace Andrea. You are missed.
