After a busy life full of diverse experiences for which he has always been deeply grateful, New Zealand painter Douglas MacDiarmid passed away yesterday in Paris at the age of 97 A great friend from the embassy over the years, where two of his works are on display, our thoughts go out to his partner and family right now.

After a long and extraordinary life, we sadly share the news that Douglas MacDiarmid passed away in Paris overnight at the age of 97.
Douglas is survived by his beloved partner Patrick (89), and three generations of wider MacDiarmid family in New Zealand, Australia and beyond. His body will be cremated in Paris, while he lives on in his work, and in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
