Sovah Health lost a beloved member of our family this week. Our dear friend and surgeon Dr. William P. Sweezer, Jr., MD FACS passed away yesterday after being involved in a motorcycle accident. Dr. Sweezer was a well-respected and beloved member of our medical staff, hospital and community beginning his career here in 2011 as head of our open-heart program. He left the area for a few years before returning home to Danville last year to resume caring for our community. There are countless numbers of people healthy and alive in our community today because of his skill, kindness and dedicated work ethic. He cared deeply for his patients, and this is a tremendous loss for all of us. Our hearts are with the Sweezer family, and with all of those who knew and loved Dr. Sweezer.

I am so saddened to have just heard that one of Michie’s most favorite surgeons, Dr William Sweezer passed away Saturday night. He posted this beautiful tribute about Michie after her passing. It meant so much to me and the family, but sadly I never had the opportunity to meet and thank him personally.
I know that Michie will welcome him with loving arms and the two of them will enjoy lots of good music and laughter together. My deepest condolences to the family of “Code Blue”, Dr Sweezer and also with the OR group at Sovah Health in Danville.
We at the Danville Life Saving Crew, with great sadness, want to express our condolences to the family at the loss of one of our medical advisors and our dear friend Dr. William Sweezer Jr. He was a true friend of the Crew, a great instructor, and a mentor to many of us. He was always willing to share his knowledge and challenge us, to make us better. He touched so many lives in our community. Thank you for all your service to the Danville area. You will be greatly missed.
I lost a dear friend whom I called my brother to a motorcycle accident. Dr. William Sweezer aka Code Blue. He was a Heart Surgeon, and his practice is in Danville, VA. Code Blue was a very giving and loving person who will be missed by his beautiful wife, family, community, and friends. He was so special to me that I named my motorcycle after him. We ask for your prayer during this difficult time. RIP DOC. I love you dearly and I will honor you with each ride I take
