We’re sorry to hear about the sad passing of Geoff Courtois after a brief illness. Geoff was a legend of age group rugby in Coventry and Warwickshire, running school, district, county and Midlands sides, and his role as an administrator saw him work in many other areas too. Geoff will have influenced the lives of many rugby players not just within the county but through the country and beyond. Geoff was also a long-standing Season Ticket Holder at Cov, and we send our condolences to his family and friends
It is with deep regret that the Old Coventrians Association has to announce the news that Geoff Courtois sadly passed away this morning.
He was a pupil at King Henry VIII from 1948-1961, initially as a very young pupil in the Junior School, and being officially ‘Class of 53’ as that was the year he entered the Senior School.
Joining the staff of the School after teacher training, he was also a much loved teacher and rugby and cricket coach from the 1960s to the 1990s.
There will be a full obituary in the December OC Newsletter. RIP Geoff.
Very sad news this morning. I have to announce the sad passing, after a short illness, of Geoff Courtois, a bastion of schools rugby in Coventry, Warwickshire, Midlands and England. Geoff was also Head of PE at King Henry VIII and guided many an U15 side to success. Geoff’s life was full of selfless devotion to his profession, the lives of his young charges and their families, and the betterment of the game of rugby football.
RIP Geoff. You will be sadly missed. Thank you for your contribution to my life in rugby.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
