Dr. Walter L. Smith Death – Cause of Death – Dr. Walter L. Smith passed away on Thursday, 25th of November 2021 at the age of 86 in Tampa. Dr. Walter L. Smith was selected as the seventh permanent president of FAMU in 1977. He was Florida A&M University’s seventh president and president emeritus. The Florida A&M Rattlers football team represents Florida A&M University in the sport of American football.
The Rattlers compete in the Football Championship Subdivision of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Walter worked on the Saturn V program at NASA. Reports states that Walter contributed greatly to educational programs on campus and fought against legislative down-sizing of FAMU by the Florida legislature.
The cause of death was not announced to the public at the time of this publication. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced.
