The Oscar®-nominated producer that brought “Field of Dreams” “Die Hard” and other memorable films to the big screen has died tonight.
CHARLES GORDON, Charles Gordon, who produced such hit films as Field of Dreams, Waterworld, and October Sky, has died of cancer in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai surrounded by family. He was 73.
Gordon, along with brother Lawrence Gordon, was raised in Belzoni, Mississippi.
Lawrence Gordon confirmed his brother’s passing in a phone conversation with Deadline.
“He was a wonderful man, a great father a great husband and a great human being,” Gordon said. “He was my closest friend, and we collaborated on films that included Field Of Dreams and Die Hard in particular. He also produced without me October Sky, which was just a wonderful movie. Though he was 11 years younger than me, my baby brother, in real life he was more like a big brother, and I never made an important family decision without his input.”
The brothers worked alongside each other for numerous films. Charles Gordon’s producing credits include Field of Dreams, Lock Up, K-9, Waterworld, Unlawful Entry, October Sky, Die Hard 2 and Hitman.
Charles Gordon began his career as a film agent and also worked as a screenwriter and television producer. He wrote five different series concepts, three of which went into production in the early 1980s.
He then became a film producer working with his elder brother. For the 1990 drama Field of Dreams, the late producer received an Oscar® nomination for Best Picture.
Gordon was married to the casting director Lynda Gordon, with whom he had three daughters, including film producer Kate Gordon, Jamie and Lily.
We at CineCera send our sincerest condolences to Lawrence, Lynda and the Gordon family for their passing of their family member Charles.

Charles Gordon not only produced the super touching Field of Dreams, but also the Die Hard films, the very good The Rocketeer and October Sky, as well as your favorite 80s guilty pleasures like K-9 and Night of the Creeps

I had the great honor of interviewing legendary producer Charles Gordon for the @ballyhoofilms feature-length documentary about the making of #Waterworld. He was very kind and forthcoming. He also supported my approach with the subject and encouraged me to dig deeper. Farewell.

RIP to one of the few who knew how to deliver a great story again and again. True producers are underappreciated, and Charles Gordon was a great one.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
