Officials are probing an officer-involved shooting in a Brooklyn highway that left a man dead at the evening hours of Thursday, according to a report.
At about 4:00 p.m., officials with the New York City Police Department attempted to stop a Cherokee Jeep on the eastbound Belt Parkway near the Bay 8th Street end. The 65-year-old driver of the vehicle declined to stop and fled, resulting in a police chase.
Backup officers arrived and were able to pull the vehicle over 200 yards East of Bay Parkway Avenue. The driver got off the car armed with a gun pointed towards the officers. Officers fired a few shots at the man after he failed to obey police orders to drop the weapon.
The man was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No NYPD officer was injured in the shooting.
All routes leading to the Parkway were restricted at about 7 p.mn, but later on, reopened as detectives were investigating at the scene.
