The Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, was greeted with boos when he went this morning (Tuesday) to cast his vote in Manhattan, the Democratic stronghold where he is expected to outperform his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, by a wide margin.

Trump arrived at about 11:00 (16:00 GMT) in a convoy of limousines to a school on 56th Street, where several hundred journalists and voters were gathered, and was greeted by the well-known New York real estate mogul where he made his fortune, with shouts of "New York hates you." However, some people at the site, especially workers who were working in the street, applauded him albeit modestly.

The Republican candidate was dressed in a dark suit and blue tie, accompanied by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and one of his grandchildren. He shook hands with some and went to a small kiosk to buy a piece of candy from a child he was selling, before casting his vote.

A journalist asked him who he voted for, and Trump (70 years old) replied, smiling, "A difficult decision…" And when asked if he was willing to admit his defeat if his rival won, he said, "We will see what happens."

This was also his answer when he was asked the question in the last televised debate with Hillary Clinton on October 19, provoking strong condemnation among Democrats and political observers who denounced his skepticism about the American electoral system based on a smooth transfer of power after the candidates recognized the results. In the afternoon, Donald Trump will join his supporters to spend a "victory night" with them at a hotel on Sixth Avenue, a short distance from his "Trump Tower" tower, where he resided his campaign headquarters.
