Botschinsky a kind loving type of person has passed away. At this moment the family and friends of the deceased are passing through trauma, at the unexpected departure of their beloved, Botschinsky.
The tragic information on the death of Allan was made known to us by friends and family who came out on their social media platform to announce and drop condolence messages on the departure.
We recently lost beloved trumpeter and composer Allan Botschinsky. I was a college student in the late ’80s when I first heard of Allan when I purchased a CD called ‘First Brass’ based solely on the intriguing title. It turned out to be unlike anything I had ever heard! The writing and playing were incredible…a disk full of absolutely swinging tunes played on only brass instruments, with no rhythm section to be found. The genius of Allan’s musical concept/writing/playing, with the participation of some of Europe’s finest brass players, gave the world something never heard before (or since, in my opinion). The CD remained part of my heavy listening rotation for years, and then I had an opportunity to support the music in a more impactful way.
Since I loved Allan’s music so much, I wondered how I could help to spread the word about his marvelous creations, besides playing the CD for my friends. When I started a publishing company in 2007, one of my dreams was to make Allan’s compositions accessible to players worldwide as ready to play sheet music. While a handful of the pieces were available in print at one time or another from other publishers, it was my wish, and that of Allan’s wife and business partner Marion Kaempfert, to make ALL 10 of the works on that album available as THE definitive printed editions.
We started working together in 2009 and the sheet music for the tenth piece on the album was finally completed in 2014. We had some excellent source notation to start working from, but some of the music had to be painstakingly reconstructed from repeated listening to the source material. This project was an absolute labor of love for all involved and something I am extremely proud to have been part of. Brass players have responded enthusiastically to these publications which are now played around the world. It has been my pleasure to publish Allan’s works on the First Brass album, and his music will live on through his splendid recordings and compositions that will bring joy to generations to come.
