A prisoner died in the American city of Atlanta after “I ate him alive by stuffing the bed” three months after he was imprisoned in a filthy cell, according to the family’s lawyer, Michael Harper.
The Washington Post said that Lashan Thompson, 35, was found dead in a cell last September, three months after he was imprisoned in a cell so dirty that a worker was wearing a protective vest designed to protect against hazardous materials when he entered it.
Thompson's family is calling for a criminal investigation into his death and the closure of the prison in Fulton County, due to "bed bugs."
An autopsy has not yet been conducted to determine the cause of his death, but a report indicated severe injuries caused by insects, and said that his face and his upper and lower extremities had traces of wounds and lesions resulting from repeated skin scraping.
"They put the man in that cell, and left him there to die," Michael Harper, the family's attorney, said, stressing that the family is working with doctors to investigate his death.
Brad, the brother of the deceased prisoner, told the Washington Post that the family was shocked by what was stated in the death report, and the pictures showing the extent of the infection in his body.
