Ben Slavet Death | Passed Away | Obituary

Ben Slavet Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko.As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Ben Slavet.

The world lost a true giant yesterday. My cousin Ben Slavet was 7 years older than me. I always looked up to him, but in a lot of ways, we didn’t become friends until I was probably in my early 20s. Once I REALLY got to know him I realized I kind of wanted to be just like him. Ben was larger than life. Ben was life. To me, he was the epitome of cool. It makes me happy and sad to read so many posts from other friends and family who feel the same way. He wasn’t just like this with me, he was like this with EVERYONE. He made you feel like you were the most important in the room, but at the same time, I felt lucky to talk with him. He was such a great husband and dad. More than anyone I know, Ben celebrated life every day. I feel fortunate to call him my cousin and I love him.
These are three random quick stories that always pop in my head when I think of Ben:
1. Sushi – Ben always knew the spot. I remember Ben telling me the best Sushi place to go in Massachusetts. There’s always a line, he would tell me, but don’t worry. I know the owner. Not only would Ben make a personal call for a massive sushi takeout order when he was in town by calling the owner personally, but he had a freakin roll named after him. RIP Ben’s Maki.
2. Sports – All the Slaves/Liptons love sports and we tried to get to every game. Ben was next level. Multiple times we’d be watching a Sox/A’s game in Oakland and I’d turn to my kids and say, I think that’s cousin Ben on TV sitting behind home plate. I’d text him, and sure enough, he’d wave to confirm.
3. The After Party – I know his friends have some classic stories. The first wedding I ever went to was Ben and Andrea’s wedding. I got invited to the after-party. This was a big deal for me. I didn’t even know this was a thing. I was a sophomore at UMass and thought I could hang with anyone. I knew some of Ben’s friends as my counselor when I was at SCDC. I barely hung on at that party. I’ve probably been to 80 after parties since then, and not one comes remotely close to that one.
The picture below was easier times.
RIP Ben.
