Jill West Cause of Death – Passed Away: Pittsburgh Blues legend and pediatric nurse, Jill West has passed away. Jill West died on Thursday after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was 68 years old. Jill West was a kind woman and a wonderful nurse.
Jill West grew up in Elliot. In the mid-1970s, she began performing in a wedding band called Shylock, singing in different styles. She also shared the stage with local musicians such as jazz trombonist Harold Betters and Rodney McCoy and the Silk Band.
Moondog’s shared a statement on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened to report the death of a dear friend of ours and anyone who loves blues — Pittsburgh’s own Queen of the Blues — Jill West. A great performer and a great lady.”
Ms West worked as an operating room nurse at UPMC Presbyterian and then at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She also performed in clubs as the “Queen of Pittsburgh Blues,” a dynamic blues and R&B belter.
Jill West obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by her family.
