Humanity stands on the brink of self destruction,simply because we can destroy ourself or maybe because we have what it takes to destroy ourself.
Many vehemently seek to bloom the hatred and bile in manifested in the desire to kill and or wound others via warfare either at the social level or at the international level hence humanity is left bleeding from self inflicted wounds.
