Bob Kilger Cause of death: Bob Kilger, 77-year-old, passed away after a courageous 11 years battle with stomach cancer on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the age of 77. He was a Canadian politician, and former Liberal member of Parliament for the Cornwall region, representing the riding Stormont, Dundas, South Glengarry. He was a businessman and coached the Cornwall Royals to a Memorial Cup victory in 1981
Robert Kilger was born on June 29, 1944, in Cornwall, Ontario, he was a two-term mayor of Cornwall from 2006 to 2014. Before he started his career in municipal politics, He was the Liberal MP for Stormont-Dundas from 1988 to 2000 and also remained MP of the new Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry from 2000 to 2004. While serving in the Parliament, he was the chief government whip, deputy speaker, and chairman of committees of the whole of the House of Commons.
Apart from his political life, he was a businessman and coached the Cornwall Royals to a Memorial Cup victory in 1981. The Cornwall Royals represented the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League at the 1981 Memorial Cup. This marked the second consecutive appearance by Cornwall at the tournament. The Royals were the top team during the 1980-81 season, earning a record of 44-26-2 for 90 points and winning the Jean Rougeau Trophy. He also was a referee in the NHL and his son was former National Hockey League forward Chad Kilger. He was elected Mayor of the City of Cornwall on November 13, 2006, re-elected on October 25, 2010. On October 27, 2014, he lost the 2014 mayoral race.
Eric Duncan a member of Parliament on his official Facebook account shared the news of Bob’s passing saying he is saddened to learn of the passing of the passing of former member of parliament. “I am saddened to learn of the passing of former Member of Parliament Bob Kilger” He also added that Bob served their community from 1988 to 2004 as MP, and as Mayor of Cornwall from 2006 to 2014. “served our community from 1988-2004 as MP, and as Mayor of Cornwall from 2006-2014.” He said his thoughts are with his family and friends during their difficult time and he thank Bob for his contributions to public service. “My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Thank you Bob for your contributions to public service and to our country.”
