Chuck Hartman was a great coach. But the cool thing tonight is the texts I’m trading with other old Hokie geezers and the posts I’m seeing on Twitter. All have a memory of meeting Hartman and how kind and decent he was.
Wins and losses come and go. Those memories last forever.

Saddened by the passing of my friend, Chuck Hartman. One of the first to befriend me when I moved to Blacksburg 20 years ago. A smart, funny man who was one of the most decent human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. You will be greatly missed. #RIPCoach https://t.co/9CPF0TxBCT

Saddened to hear the passing of former Virginia Tech baseball head coach Chuck Hartman. Had the honor of being part of a show for @BillRoth_’s class where we got to interview him and Coach Beamer at PKs in 2018. Rest In Peace!

Sad to hear about the passing of former Virginia Tech baseball coach Chuck Hartman. First time we met, after a game I had covered for the Collegiate Times, he spat on my shoe. Accidentally, of course, but it became a long-standing joke between us. .

Incredibly sad news. Hartman was not only the VT coach of my youth, he was also the #Hokies skipper when I was at VT. Went to many camps he led, wanted to walk on his team, instead spent a lot of time covering him for the @CollegiateTimes. A real gentleman. RIP, Coach.

From @HokiesBaseball, “Heaven gained a new skipper… Chuck Hartman was more than just wins on a baseball diamond. In baseball parlance, he was a five-tool person – a father figure, a disciplinarian, a professional, a mentor, and a friend.”
