Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.
This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.
One more Curt Vendel story. Our last interaction was in April of this year – after news broke of Yet More Atari Console Stupidity, Curt sent me some design files of his whack at the “groundbreaking” new Atari console design, so people could make their own and not get scammed.

One of the best qualities of Curt Vendel was that he could and would often call bullshit on perpetuated misconceptions of Atari’s history, or equally discard any knowledge he believed wholesale if it was proven wrong. All in the service of historical accuracy and truth. (Right)

RIP to my friend Curt Vendel. When I saw his Atari website (Prototypes and Vapourwares) back in 1996 I immediately contacted him and we have been friends ever since. We did some stuff over the years, tried to set-up an online auction site for gamers called Bidiots! –

Sad news about Curt Vendel – I liked him, he was one of the proper Atari historians, chatted with him a few times when I was posting out ST stuff I was restoring, he would sometimes take an interest in the stuff I had

Very sad to learn of the death of Curt Vendel, aged 53.
Curt, a well-known figure in the Atari community, was an avid collector and historian. In 1988 he founded the Atari History Museum and also wrote the book “Atari Inc.: Business is Fun” with Marty Goldberg.

It is with an incredibly sad heart that we report Curt Vendel passed away unexpectedly yesterday. Curt was our friend of 20 years and a true Atari historian who made great contributions to our hobby. He was one of the pillars of this community and will truly be missed.

An unquestioned giant in computer history has died. Curt Vendel was a lifelong Atari Fan, and as a teenager would harass Atari to get prototypes, insider information and then turn them into reports and facts. His decades of effort gave us an incredible amount of wise insight.
