A long-married couple from Texas were both diagnosed with COVID-19 last month, and as they grew sicker they were hospitalized separately…Betty and Curtis Tarpley were able to be together and hold each others’ hands in their final moments.⁦

Hard story to believe. Not even death managed to separate Betty and Curtus Tarpley who, after 53 years of marriage, died as a result of coronavirus but held hands.

Betty and Curtis Tarpley met when they attended high school together in Illinois, United States and, since then, they were together. They got married, moved to Texas together, had two kids and, when everything seemed to go perfectly for this couple, the Covid-19 pandemic appeared in their lives.

Last June 18, the couple still held hands, died just an approximate hour apart in a Texas hospital as a result of the coronavirus that has left more than 5.7 million deaths worldwide ..

In interview with CNN, the couple’s son, Tim Tarpley explained that at 80 her mother’s age she began to be sick for a few days so she decided to take her to Harris Health For Worth Methodist Hospital where she tested positive for the Covid-19. test

After entering last June 9, her husband Curtis entered three days later also for coronavirus into the intensive care unit.

After a few days they both seemed better so the nurses decided to take a few moments to Curtis next to Betty so they could both be together for some time.

But, after a few days, Betty’s state of health began to get worse and even claims Tim his mother called him and his sister Tricia telling them she was ready to leave.

According to Tarpley they could still be with their mother twice but during their last visit the doctors informed her that she didn’t have much time left.

In the face of this, the Tarpleys son decided to communicate the state of health to his father but, hours later, his father also worsened as his oxygen levels had worsened:

′′ I really feel like he was fighting because he was supposed to, once he found out she wasn’t going to make it, he gave up ′′

The situation was getting more complicated but, thanks to a nurse, they managed to put them together so they would receive all the attention and care during their final moments. The nurse told Curtis that Betty was there and even though he tried to look at her, he was too weak.

′′ He knew what we were saying, he knew she was there. They were so incapacitated that all they could do was talk to their souls

The medical team decided to place Betty’s hand on Curtis’s arm so they could both feel. Betty passed away at 20 minutes and Curtis 45 minutes after she without letting go of her hand

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
