Bicycle enthusiasts have their own rituals, they are racing and air sports enthusiasts, and they practice their sporting activities in the open air, no one knows them but they know their sport well and follow the news of riders around the world, they decided to spread the culture of cycling in society and get it out of the circle of the unknown, so they invented a way to promote it And they contribute to helping the needy, so they decided to launch the “Jeddah Biker” team for volunteer and humanitarian work, through which they serve the community on a non-profit basis to spread the culture of cycling in Saudi Arabia and seek to enhance the assets of the riders to achieve self-financing for the sustainability of the role of the cyclist.
Anas Jibril, the field official and team coach, says, “The beginning was from a small group of friends and colleagues who love this sport, then the idea of forming an amateur volunteer team arose to spread the culture of cycling throughout Jeddah, to practice outdoor sports, to enjoy the city’s scenery, and to break indoor exercise routine.
So Anas started with six members in 2012, and they began to spread the idea of cycling in a professional way through the available social media such as “Facebook and Twitter”.
The formation of “Jeddah Cyclists” was the first spark to ignite the fuse of the sport, so the team leader did not imagine that turnout, “A great turnout that we did not imagine at the beginning, which made us think about developing the team, and we faced many obstacles, the most important of which is the infrastructure of Jeddah that is not suitable for cycling, and we look forward to benefiting from it.” From the islands in the main roads and the establishment of dedicated cycle paths in cooperation with the Municipality ».
He added, "Society did not accept bicycles as a sport, and in their eyes it remained a pastime for teenagers and children, and they did not know that it is a diverse sport and a means of transportation in many developed countries."
The cycling team has a lot of claims, which it did not find anyone listening to or adopting its achievement, the most important of which is respect for the cyclist in the street, and the application of the international system, as it is considered a vehicle and has the right to the traffic system, and the community must be educated to deal with them, especially since they are exposed to a lot of Risks due to the ignorance of motorists.
They also dream of dedicated tracks that will reduce dependence on vehicles and improve people's health.
