We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Danny Shipka, our exuberant former public relations faculty member (2007-2012). He taught courses in public relations practices & writing and was interested in film and pop culture.

Dr. Shipka received the Tiger Athletic Foundation Undergraduate Teaching Award (2008-2009) and is fondly remembered by former LSU students and colleagues. We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Shipka.

It is with great sadness that our beloved friend, mentor, jokester, tennis enthusiast, educator, human rights and political champion for all that is good Dr. Danny Shipka passed away last night. He loved everyone he met with a fierce loyalty, wit and spirit that was one in a billion. Memorial arrangements and a scholarship fund will be set up TBA.

Danny would want everyone he met (or even if he never met) and came across this message to live every second of life to the fullest. Never turn down an opportunity to see a good film, listen to some new music or eat amazing food. The best way to honor him is to continue to embrace all that makes this world worth living in.

I am so saddened to learn that the incomparable Danny Shipka has passed away. Danny was one of the best teachers I have ever had, and every class of his that I took was a joy that truly challenged my worldview. He was a mentor and a friend to so many, myself included. And he helped me to find confidence in myself as an undergraduate and then as a grad student, law student, and eventually as a young professional. This world needs more people like Danny. I’ll miss you, my friend!

Sad news. My favorite teacher of all time, Dr. Danny Shipka, passed away after one hell of a fight with Parkinson’s for about the past 5 years. Some thoughts from this grateful Gator girl: Dr. Shipka was clever, sharp, and kind. He struck the perfect balance between tough and fair. He made his courses really interesting and fun. He genuinely cared about all of his students and LOVED to teach. He was hilarious and had an energetic, curious, fascinating spirit that made you look forward to every class. Truly one in a billion. You’ll be missed, Dr. Shipka. Rest In Peace.

I am so so sorry to hear about the passing of my friend and co-conspirator Dr. Danny Shipka. One of the best experiences I have had as a scholar was co-editing an essay collection with him. He had an amazing intellect. You can see from the posts on his Facebook page the great number of students he changed through his teaching. I can attest to his quality as a scholar. I am grateful to have had the chance to work with him, to have endless conversations about horror films we loved, and to speculate about future collaborations. He will be deeply missed.

Danny Shipka was one of my all time favorite professors at LSU and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to travel abroad with him. He was always a positive influence, enthusiastic, and a goofball full of wit and passion. He fought #ParkinsonsDisease so incredibly hard and he will be deeply missed!

Here recently, we lost one of my favorite professors from OSU. Danny Shipka was my introduction to communications professor and was a man who’s personality was worth 10 mens. He was passionate, friendly yet confrontational. He was the best mentor and confidant. I never met a classmate/student that disliked him and I know that his passing has impacted thousands of us. RIP Danny, you will absolutely be missed.

Danny Shipka was one of my favorite professors at Oklahoma State that not only challenged me but also believed in me and every single one of his students. I’ll never forget his compassion and desire to have us think outside of our own point of views. To dig deep and see beyond what’s present. Because of you, I pushed myself to strive for more and learned not be afraid to speak my mind. You impacted my life in so many ways. Thank you Shipka for simply just being you. You are missed and my prayers go out to your family. Your legacy will last a life time🤍 Rest In Paradise

My friend and professor from

, Dr. Danny Shipka passed away last night. He taught me about PR, but also star charts, that the world is big and needs to be explored, and how to survive while we studied abroad.

You and your tall socks will be so missed, Danny

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
