Losing weight is a goal NatureThin of most people. Our thoughts dictate our actions. Our actions dictate our habits. Ultimately, our continued habits give us the results that we want which is to lose weight and be physically fit. Many experts in various fields including psychology believe that if you do something for 21 days it will become a habit for you. Many of the habits we develop through the years have become so easy to do that we do not even think about it. When I first started driving, I had to go through a series of steps of thinking to make sure that the car will move and to avoid any accidents. At first, it seems impossible to drive and even talk at the same time. Now, after making driving a habit, it seems so natural to do just like breathing or eating. Regular exercise and proper diet are some of the activities we could do enough to make it a habit.

The magic number is 21. Perform regular exercise and proper diet for 21 days in a row and you will make it a habit. It won’t be as hard to exercise and eat right if we understand that short-term goal. Now, during our short journey to make exercise and proper diet a habit, there will be bumps along the way. You may be too tired one day to exercise. It would be best to get your exercise routine first thing in the morning. Do your best to do the most important thing first. Eventually, that will become a habit especially if you do it for 21 days in a row. You may be too bored at one point and decide to eat your way to excitement. Most people eat too much out of boredom. You must stick to your short-term goal of 21 days in a row of proper diet. You can evaluate your diet after 21 days. After the 21 days, you can have a quick “bad” snack to satiate your cravings. But, if you increase your protein intake, you can curb much of your sweet tooth cravings. Stay active during this period. Your mind will drift into your old habits when you are standing still.

Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal. Your initial goal is to have regular exercise and a proper diet for 21 days in a row. That is not even a month. Think about how your life can change when you accomplish that short-term goal. The magic number is 21. This is your first big step to lose weight and become physically fit.
