After 23 years of working with publishers, Quantic Dream no longer has to rely on them for financing. The developer of "Heavy Rain" and "Detroit: Become Human" will publish its upcoming games independently.
The studio stated in a statement posted Thursday on their website that this move will help the company get more creative power in its projects.
"We took this step to preserve our freedom and independence, and to continue working on more ambitious and innovative projects," the developer said in his statement on the website.
Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Paris, Quantic Dream has always been known for games that place a heavy emphasis on storytelling, and more recently on interactive stories dictated by player choices.
According to the company's announcement, the success of the Detroit PlayStation exclusivity and its PC release helped give the company the financial freedom to self-publish future games. The company also received investment from the Chinese company NetEase last year, but decided to be independent and publish its games without any pressure.
