In this regard, Saudi Arabia has taken strict measures to prevent abuse, arrest aggressors, and protect victims, especially children. Last week, the Riyadh police initiated a case of a father abusing his daughters, after they published a video content asking for help after being mistreated by beating and detaining them. Specialists unanimously agreed that the regulations protect family members from any violence. whether physically, morally or psychologically, and that several systems have guaranteed these rights.

The Riyadh police stated that it had examined the case, and the security authorities had completed investigations to provide them with protection in coordination with the Family Protection Office. The father was arrested, and regular measures were taken against him and referred to the Public Prosecution.

“Okaz” sources said: The regulations limited the cases and forms of domestic violence to 14 cases. Most notably what threatens the safety of the wife or children or their physical or psychological health, placing the family in an environment that may endanger it, ill-treatment or abuse of the wife, exposure to sexual exploitation, material exploitation of the wife or children in crime or begging, and the use of abusive words that degrade dignity or lead to to contempt. Among the forms of violence: discrimination against the wife or children for any ethnic, social or economic reason, the apparent and continuous failure to raise and care for children, failure to use health vaccinations required for children, and causing children to drop out of education, and sources confirmed that the punishment in this is decided by the case inspector after consideration in the merits of the case.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development classified reports against cases of domestic violence into three levels. They are: high risk and immediately initiated, medium risk, and normal reporting. She indicated that social protection units and teams immediately process reports in cooperation with agencies and associations dedicated to victims of domestic violence.

According to the social protection units, they aim to provide social protection for women of any age and children under the age of 18. A number of social protection committees were formed in the main regions and governorates in order to achieve social security and take into account their interests. Protection units were opened in the regions and governorates, and a number of charitable societies were contracted to open protection departments in areas that do not have branches.

Is the phenomenon of violence exacerbated?

Social Counselor, Dr. Adel Ali Al-Ghamdi, said that the problem of domestic violence is as old as humanity, and it is one of the oldest human problems in social systems of all their diversity and diversity. Al-Ghamdi added that the evidence indicates that domestic violence incidents have recently worsened until they threaten the security and stability of human societies, and the intensity has increased as an inevitable result of the nature of modern life and the many changes and changes that followed in various fields. Many reasons, differ from one person to another and from one society to another, the most important of which is the weakness of religious faith, in addition to the physiological causes, alcohol and drug abuse, mental illness, personality disorder and psychological pressures, negative methods of family upbringing of the child, the culture of society and the dominance of masculine authority, social pressures, and the cultural factor towards violence.

The solution is to promote dialogue

The Social Counselor Al-Ghamdi added that one of the solutions that can limit or eliminate domestic violence is the establishment of comprehensive initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of dialogue and directed primarily at parents, transferring the competence of the tasks of the Family Protection Department to the Ministry of Interior, and it is carried out by civilians and military specialists and entrusted with dealing with it. With cases of violence, because this gives it greater power and broader powers in dealing with the concerned parties, whether the perpetrator or the victim. One of the solutions is adopting the establishment of specialized centers for the rehabilitation of perpetrators of violence to rehabilitate and integrate them and help them change the violent behavioral patterns they suffer from, in order to ensure that they do not return to committing violence against others and to encourage civil societies in combating domestic violence, and support them at all levels, and establish effective cooperation with these organizations They are assigned roles limited to preventive, rehabilitation and shelter only, without interfering in the vocational treatment processes. Among the proposals is coordination with the Ministry of Justice to assign cooperative lawyers, for cases whose cases are referred to court, to provide legal guidance to victims of violence and enable them to access justice by benefiting from legal aid, recovering their usurped rights and informing them of the legal position on the merits of their cases, and working to break down and remove psychological and social barriers. With the need to create curricula at the general and university level to introduce human rights and focus on protection mechanisms.
