I’m posting this with permission from her daughters that Elke Meyo Leeds passed away yesterday morning unexpectedly. We became instant friends through our daughters years ago. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers as we all try to process this. Elke’s dad passed away the day before she did so this is heartbreaking to say the least.
Thank you God for blessing my life with Elke Meyo Leeds and her beautiful daughters. A truly beautiful woman so full of life and love gone way, way too soon. She came into my life at just the right time. She is the reason for so many decisions I made – some took years to make but I made them for the better – and she never even knew. I am sure we all have someone like that. She once told me there was nothing I couldn’t do without YouTube. So I learned to hang all my wood blinds myself in every house I lived, caulk a bathtub, change a car battery and fix basic stuff on my car, and bike, embrace camping in the mountains, make the best camp and chiminea fires, cook the best camp food (I still have the little cooking tins you gave the boys) and love hiking (minimum 5 hours). (The 3 Ss are our secret and I live by them – I think they finally worked for me too ironically) I’m so glad you came to Bermuda to visit it must have been the only time I saw you sit still for more than 15 minutes, on my patio in the warm sun with my angel Edgar in your arms, looking at the sea.
You made sure your girls would be strong amazing smart and successful young women – and they are! Whenever we spoke it was always how proud you were of them and all the amazing things they did or were doing, or in Utah, about how much you missed them. The love you showed my boys any time we saw you I will never forget – I still hear you calling Hudsy, his nickname. And you had the funniest sense of humour. I can’t drive by ‘the colored bottles in St George’s’ a single day without smiling and thinking of you laughing out loud that I called it art. You were the most special of people Elke – never letting a minute of life or an opportunity pass you by – I am honoured you were my friend and grateful for what you taught me. Rest In Peace and know that I will watch over your daughters as long as I am around. life is so very cruel.
