It is with great sadness that I mention the death of Emile Bruneau. Bruneau passed away after a battle with brain cancer. He was research associate and lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication and director of the Peace and Conflict Neuroscience Lab. I first encountered his work in intergroup conflict and peacemaking in an episode of the “Why We Hate” documentary produced by Discovery.com (available on Amazon Prime and highly recommended). I found Bruneau’s work inspiring, particularly in his call for peacemakers to test their strategies by scientific data so as to gauge effectiveness, a practice he engaged in for his own work. He will be sorely missed. Below are links to videos of his worth watching.
The world lost an amazing PeaceBuilder, neuroscientist and human being today- Emile bruneau. One of the best keynotes I have ever heard. Please take the time to watch this video about our brains and how it processes survival, trauma, our sacred values and thinking rationally and emotionally when they are threatened. The work will go on but we lost a great one today.
Brilliant, principled, passionate, kind, and widely-admired neuroscientist Emile Gabriel Bruneau passed away today. In his much-too-short career he contributed extraordinary insights into the art and science of building peace and countering hate. He not only studied the field and advanced our understanding of it, but he engaged himself fully in it, forming friendships around the globe, speaking out against injustice, and inspiring everyone who was fortunate to know him. He should have had many more decades on this earth. Indeed, it is unbelievable how much he contributed in the limited time he was given. This is a sad, sad day. All the love, sympathy and support in the world to his surviving family and many friends and admirers. Melanie Cohen Greenberg Julia Roig Lucas Welch Waidehi Gilbert-Gokhale Liz Hume Chris Plutte
