Enlightenment is the doorway to the future.
When a society seeks to enlighten herself via the lessons of yesteryears then she is has taken a step in preparation for the future.
The first step on the path of enlightenment is mental/intellectual advancement.
Intellectual advancement starts when individuals seek to understand and build their intellectual capacity and improve themselves in innovative ways. Academic education is not compulsory to learning or intellectual advancement though it can jumpstart the process. True intellectual advancement starts from a desire to improve oneself. It takes a gaint step when one can learn deep lessons from the experience and the events of yesteryears and life generally.
Life is the greatest teacher,in life, everybody we associate with and every experience that comes our way is a teacher and helps to mold our character into who we will ultimately become. Hence as leaders,our primary effort here is to find out the lesson each person and experience holds for them.
Usually when one is well travelled,he is respected cos it is assumed that he has gained a wide knowledge from diverse people.
Second is the mountain of books one needs to read to be enlightened. As leaders on the path,one question we can always ask ourselves is
“ How enlightened am i with respect to achieving set goals and contributing to the advancement of mankind ”
