Coach Chris McGrath passed away – death : Chris McGrath, Guerin Catholic boys soccer coach passed away untimely on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. In early October, Guerin Catholic school president Rick Wagner McGrath on a blog post asked the community to pray along with them, revealing that Chris was hospitalized due to COVID in mid-September and was later moved to the ICU and placed on a ventilator. According to Chris’s wife Shari, she wrote. “Chris peacefully passed away this morning at 10:45 surrounded by his family,” “He fought one hell of a fight, but there was nothing more that the medical staff could do for his lungs.”
McGrath during his tenure as a head coach at Golden Eagles won more than 60 games from 2016 to 2021, with semistate appearances from 2019 to 2020. McGrath’s involvement in the Indy soccer scene extended well beyond his role as Guerin coach. In fact, Chris was perhaps best known for founding Sogility, a soccer-specific training facility in Westfield that takes a technology-driven approach to training. Opened in 2018, the indoor facility has been so popular that the company plans to break ground on a new, larger building to the east of its current location later this year. He is survived by his wife, and their three children: daughters Emily and Julia, and son Ryan. He will be greatly missed but his legacy, contributions, and memory will live on in the heart of many that he touched.
A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of the McGrath family late last month with the goal of raising $75,000, which has raised more than $25,000 towards its goal, with Anonymous as the top contributor with a donation of $5000. A note on the GoFundMe account read “Chris and Shari McGrath are facing the challenge of their lives as Chris works to heal and Shari advocates for him every step of the way. They have been sustained these last weeks by your prayers, meals, car pool rides, lawn mowing, cards, and messages. They are so very grateful for everything that has been done.”
Chris McGrath’s obituary will be organized by the family.
