Hans Linde, former Oregon Supreme Court Justice and law professor at both @WillametteLaw and @Oregon_Law, died Monday, August 31st. A great man, brilliant jurist, and beloved mentor of mine, I deeply mourn his passing. May his memory be a blessing.

We lost a judicial giant when Hans Linde died. The only consolation is a big one: his ideas will live as long as we keep our nation a constitutional republic and resist the death of democracy. May that be a long time indeed.

I flew to Oregon to spend the day with Hans Linde while I was writing my college thesis on the 1st Amendment. He was incredibly generous w/ his time. I was so moved by our day-long conversation on life and the law that it served as the basis of my law school admissions essay. RIP

My father’s mentor, Justice Hans Linde, who fled the Nazis and became a groundbreaking champion of judicial federalism, passed this weekend at 96. I hope they’ve been reunited, and Hans is happily pontificating for hours after being asked exactly one question by my dad.

dilleradollar and I both share a deep love for Hans Linde and for state constitutional law (a class that Paul Diller teaches with heart and knowledge). We lost a giant with Hans’ passing.
