Yesterday (Sunday), a number of international human rights organizations condemned the death of the Qatari media activist and journalist Fahd Buhindi, in Al-Hamour prison, accusing the authorities in Doha of being involved in his death under torture. In a statement, the Arab Organization for Human Rights in Britain and Europe, the Gulf League for Rights and Freedoms, and the African Organization for Heritage and Human Rights called on Qatari officials to provide clarifications about the case and reveal the conditions of other prisoners. The statement referred to the duties of officials to protect the lives of prisoners, calling on the Qatari regime to conduct “independent and impartial investigations” as soon as possible, to reveal who tortured Fahd Buhindi to death. In their statement, the organizations held the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari Minister of Interior, Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, responsible for the killing of Fahd Buhindi, stressing that “they must be held accountable for this crime.” The statement added that Fahd Buhindi was transferred to a solitary cell after he went on hunger strike, then they transferred him to Al-Hamour prison, and Buhindi was beaten and injured after being transferred to prison, until he died due to torture.
