With a heavy heart, we’re writing to share the sad news that Ilia Salita, GPG President and CEO, passed away yesterday from cancer. Ilia was a dear friend, colleague, mentor and leader, especially in these challenging times. We will feel his loss profoundly. He left an indelible mark on our organization, those who knew and loved him, and on the Jewish people. Those of us who were fortunate enough to count him as a friend mourn the enormity of his loss, even as we reflect on the scope of his contributions to the world through the relationships he nurtured, as well as the passion he showed in his life and for his life’s work.

The JDC Family joins countless others in mourning the untimely loss of a visionary Jewish leader and partner, Ilia Salita, President and CEO of the Genesis Philanthropy Group.

We were fortunate to have worked closely with Ilia to strengthen the Jewish world by engaging and leveraging the talents of Russian-speaking young adults and teens, building community through volunteerism, and forging lasting connections and bridges of understanding among Jews worldwide for the benefit of our shared future.

Through Ilia’s wisdom, generosity, inquisitiveness, and boundless passion, he inspired us to think bigger, smarter, and to develop new models of Jewish leadership and action that would benefit generations to come.
May his memory truly be for a blessing, as his life truly was.

President and CEO of the Genesis Philanthropy Group. Ilia was relentless in his perfectionism, professionalism and broad vision regarding the needs of the Jewish people in general and those of Russian speaking heritage in particular. His sudden, tragic passing is a blow to all of those who believe in educational innovation. He will be sorely missed, and I am sending my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.

We are shocked and saddened by the devastating news of the untimely death of Ilia Salita z”l, President and CEO of Genesis Philanthropy Group (GPG). Ilia was one of our first ever guests to JW3’s Jewish Community Centre, attending our first ever pre-opening test event with our founding benefactor Dame Vivien Duffield in conversation with Rabbi Lord Sacks. He took the time to sit with me the next day before he flew out of London to give me feedback, hear about about JW3’s plans, and offer his support and friendship. Over the subsequent seven years Ilia became a critical friend to JW3 – and to me as CEO – and through his visionary leadership we developed a significant partnership between JW3 and GPG. He was a real mensch and always made time whenever he was in London to visit JW3, where would usually share an enjoyable, thought-provoking conversation over coffee about the challenges facing the Jewish world and exciting new ideas we both had for working together. And a good chat about the football too!

On behalf of the Trustees and staff of JW3, I extend our deepest condolences to llia’s family and to his GPG family. I hope that they will find some comfort in the many memories they have of a great man, and of the outpouring of love, respect and sympathy from across the Jewish world, where he had many friends and admirers. He will be greatly missed. May his name live on is his legacy that touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of Jews around the world, and may his memory be forever a blessing.
