First things this morning I got the call from my brother that Jim Balthazor had passed away. Mr. B was the first Rock Star I ever met. He taught music in Russell and my mom took me to everything the older kids did. I saw plays, choirs, bands, ect. and Mr. Balthazor was a constant presence at these events and I was in awe of him and everything he did. Everyone looked up to him and everyone loved him. When he was my music teacher in middle school, he had a drum set, bass, and electric guitar in his room! It was fantastic. The power of that was insane and watching him play music had a HUGE impact on me. I was very very fortunate to grow up with unbelievable music teachers like Steven Lueth and Margaret Willson and Mr. Balthazor. I often think that I would probably be in prison if it weren’t for my music teachers and all the other teachers back home who took an interest in a weird little angry kid. While I had some fantastic teachers, I can truly say that Mr. B. just got me. He saw right through me and accepted me for who I was and saw what I could be. The same thing goes for his wife Cindy Balthazor. There was no fooling her. My heart is breaking for her and his whole family right now and everyone that knew and loved him. He touched countless lives and helped so many find their way. I’m eternally grateful. I have a hard time with God and a higher power but I have found that music is proof that there is a God. There is no way that power exists by happenstance. So, I’ll get to see him again, but for now….. Thank You Mr. B.
My heart is heavy, with the passing of Jim Balthazor. His God given gifts touched so many. When I think back on some of my favorite teachers, Cindy and Jim were top of the list. Should I ever find myself lost, I’ll be able to look to the night sky and find my way home. Thanks to Mr. B. and his love for teaching.
This has been quite an emotional week for me. It started off with my first homecoming not with my TMP family, watching the fabulous Wendy Stein directing “my” pep band and feeling a jab in my heart. I absolutely loved seeing all “my” students and once again with so many obstacles James Harris pulled off yet another great homecoming. Then receiving the devastating news last night about Jim Balthazor. Today I subbed for him in his classroom and had to observe his students coming to see me instead of Jim. My heart just aches for the loss of my dear friend and for his beautiful soul mate Cindy. Jim has been a friend of mine for many years and was one to never say no to helping anyone. He was the most unselfish man I know. God bless you Cindy and Teryn. We have lost a good man.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
