We announce with great sadness and heartache that our Life President Joyce Dowding has died after a very short illness in Hospital.Joyce a World War 2 Veteran was 98 years old and the Friends offer our heartfelt condolences to her many friends including Nicola and family .In the sixteen years we have been established she has been a very keen supporter of everything we have done and would attend our monthly meeting when she could.She was a person who was constantly trying to raise money for one cause or another including ourselves but she was well known for her fundraising for the RNLI Redcar Ladies Branch.She was also a prominent volunteer at Stead Hospital and we often laugh when going through the foyer of the New Hospital because her photo if on the massive freeze about three times There are many stories told by others during her long life but one I remember was when she rang me up just as I was starting the group in 2004 and said she could not do hands on gardening but she could raise money from a Tombola in the Library.Three weeks later she rang again to say she had raised £36 but it would have been £42 but she had to pay for her taxi fare.I was 60 and she was 82 so I said I would take her next time but she said no I was too old and would not be able to lift the bags into the car.She will be sorely missed by our Group especially Ged and Dot and by the many friends she has made over the years in both Coatham Lodge and the Dunes on Low Farm Drive. RIP Joyce, Life President of the Friends of Redcar Cemetery.Reunited with her family and our past Friends Gina Craggs and Vera Robinson MBE.

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of one of the cornerstones of the Redcar Lifeboat Ladies Guild, Joyce Dowding, at the age of 97. She died on Wednesday 29 July 2020 after a sudden illness.
